Neon Lab
UW-Madison is one of few universities with a Neon Lab. Our facilities include:
vacuum testing and aging station,
boro manifold with two gas canister system,
three hand torches,
two Voltarc Hyde 16” ribbon burners,
two cross fire burners
Cold Shop
Our cold shop is equipped with:
two 36” Steinert flat wheels,
2 Sommer and Maca belt sanders,
2 Turner polishing machines,
diamond spindle grinder,
sandblaster,
diamond saw,
two 24” reciprolaps,
water-fed drill press,
Fordham flex-shaft station,
Rayzist exposure unit
Flameworking
We’re improving our flameworking capabilities this year, but to date we are equipped with:
Carlisle CC burner
Nortel Minor burner
Heathway Scientific glass lathe
The Glass Lab is extremely lucky to have the resource of Tracy Drier on campus, scientific glassblower for the Chemistry Department.
Kiln Room
Our kiln room is equipped with 6 kilns of varying sizes and shapes for casting, fusing, and slumping:

- 30″ x 30″ x 15″
- 54″ x 40″ x 10″
- 60″ x 36″ x 12″
A shared plaster and wax room are adjacent to the Glass Lab facilities.
